Early American Outdoor Lighting
Hammerworks Early American Outdoor Lighting has been proudly handcrafted in New England since 1979. Most importantly we make each light with careful attention to detail and historical accuracy. Furthermore, we use the same methods as the early craftsmen. Because we take time to fold, bend, cut, and solder by hand, the result is light fixtures of unmatched quality. We offer reproduction Colonial lanterns in a choice of hand-rubbed solid antique copper or brass finish. Thus the fixture has an attractive satin patina, which will oxidize naturally over time. If you prefer, we can apply a Verdigris finish giving the lantern a weathered look. In addition, we offer painted black as a custom option. As a result of our attention to detail and craftsmanship, we guarantee a fine heirloom quality lantern. Therefore our reproduction of Early American lanterns will illuminate your home for many years.
Lantern Size And Placement
No matter the outdoor wall lantern style you prefer, keep in mind size and placement. We recommend never shying away from size. This is because the lights may appear undersized if not scaled properly to the setting. A rule of thumb when placing wall lights at an entryway is for the lantern height to measure approximately one-third of the height of the door. In addition, consider how much illumination the area needs. Finally, look at the general aesthetics of the doorway to decide whether to place lights on just one or both sides of the entry.
When choosing the size and quantity of post lanterns, consider several factors. Again it is important not to shy away from size. The distance from the post light to the building, as well as the building size itself, determines which size post light is appropriate. On a long driveway, multiple post lanterns may be necessary, to achieve proper illumination as well as aesthetic value.
